# How to open .zip attachments in Adobe Reader

Adobe Reader does not allow opening .zip file attachments directly from Adobe Reader. Attachments represent a potential security risk because they can contain malicious content, open other dangerous files, or launch applications. However, if you need this option there is a workaround to enable it by editing registry data:

1. Click Start and find Run application
2. In the Open box type "regedit" and click OK to open Registry Editor
3. In Registry Editor navigate to the following registry key:\
   HKEY\_LOCAL\_MACHINE\software\policies\adobe\AdobeAcrobat\DC\FeatureLockDown\cDefaultLaunchAttachmentPerms
4. Double-click on sBuiltInPermList
5. In the Value data field, locate the .zip file type extension
6. Change the number directly after the .zip file type extension to 1 and click OK

Reopen Adobe Reader and now you should be able to open .zip file attachments directly from Adobe Reader.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.swingsoftware.com/seascape-for-notes/faq/how-to-open-.zip-attachments-in-adobe-reader.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
